Bollywood actor Manoj Bajpayee, who is known for his superb acting skills, said that actors should not be stubborn about their ideas or personality. They should always be ready for change change. Manoj believes self-obsession can destroy an actor's career as it stops them from channelling their instinct. The 49-year-old actor, who has made characters such as Bhiku Mhatre, Sardar Singh, Dr Shrinivas Ramchandra Siras immortal, said an actor should be ready to learn and unlearn things.

"Every actor has a way of preparing for a role. What is important is that an actor should be ready to drop and add ideas when giving the final performance. It is a difficult thing to do. It has a lot to do with the actor's personality. If somebody is stubborn about their idea they won't be able to do it," he said.

The actor added that over the years, he has realised that he is not "obsessive about what I feel for the character".

"And then there is instinct. Shekhar Kapur told me once, 'Actors start dying when their instinct starts failing.' He was so right. I believe actors' instinct can only be alive if you are ready to learn and unlearn all those things you have done in the past," Bajpayee said during a session at the ongoing Dharamshala International Film Festival.

The session titled 'Manoj Bajpayee and the Art of Acting' was conducted by senior journalist and writer Aseem Chabbra.

Bajpayee said in order to unlearn, he avoids discussing his achievements.

"I don't get self-obsessed. Instinct of an actor has to be alive. It has to be as alive as of a child. It is a difficult task but with it comes easy for me. I cringe while watching my films," he added.

Karan Johar has remained mum on the entire #MeToo movement. But now, the director has finally shared his two cents. In response to a caller on his radio show Calling Karan Season 2, the director spoke about the importance of consent in any sort of relationship.

The caller asked the director how do you get a consent to which KJo answered, “So how do you get consent? You ask for it! You have to ask, ‘Are you ok with this?’ or ‘Do you want to do this’. It’s important for people to understand both, the verbal as well as the non-verbal communication they get from someone they are with. These are the basics; basics that we often tend to forget.”

Further, he went on to state examples to clarify what counts as sexual harassment. He said, “Sending someone pictures of your private parts is also not cool! Kissing someone or touching them inappropriately while they’re drunk, is not cool. Persisting with flirtatious texts, even after someone has explicitly expressed discomfort, is definitely not cool,” adding that one must respect the boundaries that others have set for them.

Bollywood actor Rakhi Sawant on Wednesday filed a 25 paise defamation suit against Tanushree Dutta for allegedly hurting her reputation by making “unwholesome” and “deeply derogatory” statements. She claimed that Tanushree spoke in derogatory fashion about her during an interview with a television channel where she accused actor Nana Patekar of sexually harassing her on a movie set in 2008.

In her suit, filed at a civil court in suburban Malad, Sawant said she has been part of the film industry for two decades and made a “promising career and name for herself”. “The defendant  had an uncharacteristic, unstable and disappointing career in the film industry, spanning for only five years. After which she was out of limelight.

“Upon her return to limelight, Tanushree made certain unwholesome and deeply derogative statements against Sawant due to which, she has incurred huge financial losses and has suffered a dent on her reputation, which had taken years to build,” the suit said.

Sawant also took objection to a press release issued by Tanushree, where words such as “uncouth”, “uneducated” “characterless” and “classless” were allegedly used for her.

She urged the court to order Tanushree to pay her 25 paise as damages for “maligning her reputation” and to tender an unconditional apology in “print, television and social media”.

Tanushree hit headlines last month when she levelled allegations of harassment against Patekar and others. She followed it up by registering a police complaint against him. Tanushree’s allegations came amid a raging #MeToo movement in the country. Patekar denied the allegations and sent a legal notice to Tanushree, seeking apology. The court has not yet set any date for hearing on the suit, Sawant’s lawyers said.
