Saif Ali Khan says doing Baazaar was a big risk, and he is glad that it paid off well. In the film, Saif portrays role of a small town boy who becomes the wolf of the stock trading market, is known for his business acumen and understands “only maths”.

“My role in Baazaar was challenging for many reasons. Apart from exploring a subject centred around the stock market, which hasn’t been done before, my character was also very layered with shades of grey,” Saif said in a statement .

Baazaar, a film on stocks, money and crime, also stars Chitrangada Singh and Radhika Apte.

The Gauravv K Chawla directorial is being appreciated for tackling a different subject in a relatable manner.

Starting from an early age, Aamir had been heavily influenced by his director father Tahir Hussain, who always asked him, “How will you describe the story in one line? What’s the premise of your story?” These questions helped established a base in Aamir’s life for the selection of scripts of his movies.

For Gajraj Rao, Badhaai Ho is no less than a miracle. The actor who has been in the industry for over two decades, and still pursues other interests for financial security, says acting alone is not a lucrative profession unless one is a superstar.

“It’s a miracle, it’s magic,” says Gajraj, not talking about his Badhaai Ho character impregnating his wife at an age when couples cradle their grandchildren. Gajraj is dumbfounded by the success the film has got him. “The calls, the messages, friends and strangers alike are calling from all over the country and from outside. I never imagined this film would change my life and career. But it has. It is all destiny,” said the actor, who has been around since 1998.

He doesn’t see his years of struggle as struggle. “It was not as if acting was my only means of livelihood. I made sure my family didn’t have to suffer the consequences of my passion for acting.”

While pursuing his acting career, Gajraj also dabbled in the business of garment export. He also tried his hand at Hindi journalism for a while. And he owns an ad-making agency Code Red Films. All these pursuits serve as financial security for Gajraj and his family.

“I firmly believe acting cannot be a lucrative profession unless you are a superstar. That a major role in Badhaai Ho has come so late in my career can only be called destiny. I never expected to get a pivotal role like this. It was Ayushmann Khurrana who recommended me for the role. I can’t thank him enough, and the director Amit Sharma and the writers for writing such an interesting role for an actor who has never done a central part before.”

Reminded of the hard-hitting real-life TV crime drama Bhanwar in which he had played a child rapist, Gajraj recalled his beginnings. “It isn’t as if Badhaai Ho is the first role I’ve been recognised for. Off and on for films like Black Friday, Yahaan and No Smoking, I was noticed and praised.

“My last screen appearance was in Meghna Gulzar’s Talvar, where I had a brief but interesting role. And my stint in the web series ‘Tech Conversations With Dad’ for The Viral Fever connected me to the young audience. “But earlier when I was recognised by someone at the airport or at an event, it was like, Aapko maine kahin dekha hai . Then I would launch into my own biodata to tell the person who I am.”

But after Badhaai Ho, he says it is for the first time that he is being called out by his name. “When someone shouted, Gajraj at a public place for the first time, it was music to my ears.”

The world of Kaushik, the character that Gajraj plays in Badhaai Ho, is familiar to him. “My father was in the railways, just like my character in “Badhaai Ho”. I’ve spent all my growing up years in a flat in a railway colony. Doing this film was in many ways a process of reclaiming my past.”

Mumbai
Superstar Shah Rukh Khan will start working on astronaut Rakesh Sharma's biopic early next year, producer Ronnie Screwvala said.

With script written by Anjum Rajabali, the film will be directed by Mahesh Mathai and produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur and Screwvala under their banners Roy Kapur Films and RSVP Films respectively.

There were reports that Bhumi Pednekar has been signed opposite Shah Rukh in the film, reportedly titled "Saare Jahaan Se Achcha" but Ronnie said an official announcement will be made soon.

"We are doing that film with Shah Rukh Khan. We should begin it by February or March next year, but we haven't announced the female lead yet," Ronnie told PTI.
The producer, who has also backed Sushant Singh Rajput-Sara Ali Khan starrer "Kedarnath", said going forward he wants to be more involved in each and every project he is a part of.

"This time around there is no compulsion. I can do three movies a year, or six. Telling the stories I want to tell is most important. That's what I'm going to focus on, bring deeply involved with everything, from cast and script. That's the plan," he said.

Ronnie was speaking on the sidelines of the 20th edition of Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, where his "Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota" had its India premiere.

The producer said when he was approached by director Vasan Bala, he understood the filmmaker's vision.

"If you look at the script and read it, at that stage you might get question marks- what, why and how is this happening. For me to work with Vasan in the long term was very important. I understood the vision and decided to back it.

"With this kind of movie you think what more we can do to make it more mainstream. So the music came on to some different level and the cast was already perfect," he added.

The film chronicles the story of a young man born without pain receptors who longs to defeat 100 opponents in a kumite tournament.

The action-comedy recently bagged People's Choice Award in the Midnight Madness section at Toronto International Film Festival and received an overwhelming response at its India premiere.
